The 5 most important features you want on your website

The presence you have online is more important than you might think. However, if you don’t have the right important features to engage and captivate your audience, this online presence has no real advantages for you.

If you don’t have a website, Comm2po can help you with that and get you started on the right foot. Or if you do have a website, we can refresh it for you and give you one you will love and your audience will engage with.

For those of you that do have a website, here are 5 essential components you must include.

1. A cohesive aesthetic

  1. Always simple and easy to read content
  2. Use the rule of 3; 3 colours, 3 fonts, 3 font sizes
  3. Consistent colour palette; no clashing colours!
  4. There must be a strong contrast
  5. Consistency is key
  6. Place important information to the top left of your website. It’s what is getting viewed first.
  7. Make your logo link back to the home page
  8. Change the colour for your hover links

Your business is personal so only you can know the most effective way of expressing your aesthetic — and it will likely take a little trial and error to figure out what that means for you.

2. Make the purpose of your website clear

Whatever the theme of your website it needs to be clear on what the purpose is, is it to sell, to educate, to showcase, you decide. The easiest way to do this is by including an about us page that’s easy to get to but that also captivates the reader’s attention. No one wants to read 20 paragraphs on how the company started, keep it short and precise, use the most important information. A byline under your website header telling people why you’re on the internet would also be a great feature to include on your website. A good rule of thumb is that a reader should be able to identify the purpose of your site within four seconds of looking at your page.

3. Let your audience know why you’re different

What is the benefit from buying from or from following you? Find a way to include your biggest difference, what makes you stand out from all the other websites, and get people excited about it. This will keep them engaged and keeps them viewing your website longer.

4. Connecting & contacting

Don’t make it hard to find your social media. Your audience want to find you as easily as possible. Keep them in a visible place on your website, that way, communication is easy! Also, Test the links often to make sure you aren’t giving out the wrong social media link.

Make sure you have a contact page with at least a name and phone number to make it easy for customers to reach you, e-mail is also a good thing to have on this page, but what makes it easier is having a working contact form, basically does the work for them, they just have to fill in the blanks.

5. Mobile friendly

There are so many individuals who access websites only on mobile devices these days. From a tablet to a smartphone, your website needs to have the same cohesiveness and greatness on mobile than it has on a computer. Browser testing! Browser testing! Browser testing! Test your links, pictures, and pages for layout improvement or errors.
